We have recently conducted a survey and analysis of our appointment system and have developed the following system having listened to you. We accept there is no perfect system but hope this helps. Your ongoing feedback to continue to improve is also gratefully received.
25% of appointment slots will be available to book up to 4 weeks in advance, however these do get booked up and are offered on a first come first serve basis. These are for follow-ups, or non-urgent appointments and reviews with a GP.
Same day Appointments
If you require an appointment on a certain day (Monday-Friday) you can ring on that day and we will try and ensure you are dealt with appropriately – this may be by telephone, seeing a GP, nurse or other appropriate health care professional or we will advise you to come to the nurse led drop in clinic.
We are unable to accommodate same day requests around times of work (although we will try) and if offered an appointment but you are unable to take it, we would advise you call on a day that you would be able to do so.
Each day at Station Street between 10am-12pm we hold a nurse led drop in clinic. If you have any acute illness or minor injury and wish to be seen please attend the surgery between the times stated. If you are unsure if your problem is appropriate for the clinic please contact reception who will be able to assist you.
If you require your test results the receptionist will be able to give you a brief summary based on what the GP has written. They are unable to say anything further than what is on the screen. If you require further discussion, please book a telephone or face to face appointment with the doctor or nurse. If your result requires urgent action the surgery will contact you.
Please book a routine telephone consultation with the GP you usually see for this. Sick notes are not urgent.
Letters or other requests from the GP or Nurse
The receptionists will take a message regarding these queries and send a message to the relevant GP or nurse. We are unable to do letters urgently which are not related to NHS clinical care. Although we advise up to a 28 day turnaround to process letters/medical reports/copies of medical records, we are not always able to adhere to this but will keep the request updated if this is the case. For requests of medical reports/copies of medical records, a form will need to be completed at reception and they will provide you with an information leaflet explaining the full process. Please be aware that for any requests which are not related to NHS clinical care, a fee pay be applicable.
Online Booking System
Registered patients can now book appointments online and view your summary record. Please contact us to register for this service.
If you have more than one problem, particularly if they are both new problems or involve complex issues, please ask for a double appointment. Also consider a 20 minute appointment if attending for the first time for a mental health issue, eg depression.
In a number of cases it might be worth considering an appointment with a practice nurse rather than a doctor. Practice nurses are qualified to deal with many ailments and you may be seen more quickly.
We may be able to save you time and a journey by getting one of practice nurses or GP's to provide help and advice over the telephone. Please ask reception for details. Please note that all incoming and outgoing telephone calls are recorded for training and quality purposes.
If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.
We are committed to providing a safe and comfortable environment where patients and staff can be confident that best practice is being followed at all times and the safety of everyone is of paramount importance. All patients are entitled to have a chaperone present for any consultation, examination or procedure where they feel one is required. Patients have the right to decline the offer of a chaperone. However the clinician may feel that it would be wise to have a chaperone present for their mutual protection for example, an intimate examination on a young adult of the opposite gender.
As we are a Teaching Practice we occasionally have medical students present during consultations. If a medical student will be present during your appointment you will be informed prior to this, and have the option to refuse a medical student if you wish
Letter to GP Undergraduate Teachers
From 1st April 2015, all practices are required to allocate a named accountable GP to all patients. Our patients will all be assigned a named GP and you can be advised of who this is at your request. Rest assured that this will not impact your experience at our practice, the provision of appointments, your treatment or what GP you see.
You may wonder why your allocated GP is not the one you see most regularly, please be assured that can still access all of our medical team in exactly the same way as before. Having been advised of your named accountable GP, should you have any concerns, please contact the surgery.
